Choosing Stand Up Paddle Boards for Your Next Family Trip
on May 17th, 2012 at 6:50 pmMany families enjoy that time every year when they get the opportunity to take a great trip, whether it’s a camping trip, a boating adventure or a trip to a favorite beach. Unfortunately, kids tend to grumble about these family vacations that can often seem unexciting with little to do. The truth is virtually every family vacation spot has something fun to offer the whole family, especially if you’re going to hit the water.
A trip to the water offers the chance to enjoy a whole host of water activities, including surfing, diving, kayaking, tubing boating and a rather new sport, stand up paddle boarding. The beauty of this sport is it’s easy to learn and requires no great skill to enjoy. Parents, teenagers and younger children can enjoy getting out on the water and enjoying a calm lake, a river or even the ocean. The sport is similar to surfing but much more relaxed, using a paddle to steer and glide over the water. It also requires little more than a stand up paddle board and a paddle.
Paddleboarding doesn’t even require a great deal of money, also making it the ideal activity for a family vacation. During the off-season, shop around with local classifieds or online paddle board retailers to find a great deal on a couple of boards and paddles. Boards range in size and price, although many families prefer inflatable versions because they’re easy to store in the winter. Inflatable stand up paddle boards are also great if you’re planning a family road trip or camping trip because they take up so little room and inflate quickly. Expect to pay between $100 and $700 per board with paddle, depending on your budget, the size of the board and the material. Keep in mind buying a few boards for the family will provide unlimited fun during your next family vacation and provide a lifetime of memories to cherish together.
